Pairings and Projects for sale March 1st - April 16th.

The ten artists in the 2017 Season have been grouped into 5 Pairings. Each of these pairs complements each other, thematically or stylistically. All the Pairings and Projects are listed on this page, so keep scrolling to peruse them all. 

 

Joyce & Aylward            $295

By purchasing the Joyce & Aylward Pairing you will receive two artworks, mixed-media collage by Marilyn Joyce and one acrylic painting by Roberta Aylward.

Marilyn Joyce

Contrasting distinctive lines with subtle, atmospheric colors, Marilyn Joyce forms collages using a variety of papers, ink, gouache, thread, and graphite. The visual maps, approximately 8 inches by 10 inches, are abstract recordings of her observations associated with the land during daily walks.

Roberta Aylward

The crisp edges and strident colors of geometric shapes emerge from, and in turn are subsumed into, hazy washes in Roberta Aylward's abstract compositions. Inspired by natural phenomena, Aylward's 11 inch by 15 inch paintings on paper explore the subtlety of the in-between, spaces both familiar and entirely new.

Daniel Granias

Sculptural ceramic vessels by Daniel Granias resemble a fusion of anatomical features and the natural world and use the tactility of clay to represent the physicality of tension, torque, inflation, and suction. These small but potent vessels, approximately 8 cubic inches, can live on desktops, mantles, or tabletops and hold flowers, candles, or other treasures.

Gina Rios

Poised with potential energy as well as kinetic curves and angles, Gina Rios's pendant necklaces investigate the complementary forces of grace and strength and how those forms interact with the body. The sculptural pendants, approximately 3 inch by 3 inch by 1 inch, combine copper, brass, silver, and a mixture of fabricated and cast elements.

Drake & Peterson            $290

Carolyn Hazel Drake

Carolyn Hazel Drake's mixed-media wall hangings are meditations on the cycles of the moon in layers of finely stitched wool, cotton, and linen encircled by porcelain. Creamy, neutral colors are enlivened by the variety of textures and surface treatments in the 8 inch by 8 inch works.

Stan Peterson

Stan Peterson's evocative, narrative wood sculptures feature perched or flying owls and other birds with disarming personalities and supple, faceted surfaces. These austere, but charming, hand-carved characters, approximately 7 inches tall, are colored with milk paint and stained with graphite.

Birdsong & Povax            $290

Heather Lee Birdsong

Using Forest Park as a backdrop, Heather Lee Birdsong explores how personal relationships and the private experience of emotions can color public spheres. Birdsong's use of unexpected objects imbues these intimate 7 inch by 5 inch gouache paintings with resonance and metaphor.

Alyson Provax

Through her personal relationship with Forest Park, as well as research into its history, and using both her own and appropriated phrases, Alyson Provax crafts evocative text-based artworks. Poised between poetry and philosophy, her experimental letterpress prints are approximately 4 inches by 5 inches on paper.

Sarah Fagan

Sarah Fagan's paintings encourage the reconsideration of everyday boxes, which she has deconstructed, unfolded, refolded, layered, and stacked to redirect them from their intended identity and situate them between still life and abstraction. The 10 inch by 10 inch paintings boast meticulous brushwork with muted colors in acrylic, layered with and accented by colored pencil.

MaryAnn Puls

MaryAnn Puls's abstract paintings record spontaneous impulses and thoughtful arrangements through her unique visual vocabulary of lines, forms, and harmonious combinations of color. Observations of interactions between natural occurrences and human-made elements will provide the catalyst for her 5 by 7 by 1.5 inch mixed-media paintings.
